10 of TikTok’s Most Iconic Healthy Food Trends

You can find all sorts of entertaining content on TikTok. Not only does it make us laugh, but it also teaches us valuable lessons in the kitchen! Let’s take a look at some of the most viral food hacks and recipes to come out of TikTok.

1. Dalgona Coffee

This viral TikTok trend blew up massively during the COVID-19 pandemic. It seemed like everybody on social media was whipping this tasty treat up!

Dalgona coffee is a drink that features milk on the bottom and a creamy, fluffy coffee froth on top. To make this froth, you simply whisk instant coffee, sugar, and hot water (1:1:1) together in a bowl until stiff peaks form. Then, pour it over your mug of hot or cold milk and it’s ready to serve!

Coffee has numerous health benefits like boosted energy levels, lower risk of depression, and improved cognitive function.

2. Baked Feta Pasta

Baked feta pasta looks mighty fancy for how simple it is to make. With its creaminess, tanginess, richness, and freshness, it’s a 5-star recipe that takes no more than one hour in the kitchen with minimal effort required!

To start, simply put cherry tomatoes, chopped onions, minced garlic, and olive oil in an oven dish. Then, place a block of feta cheese in the middle and drizzle more olive oil on top. Season liberally with your preferred seasonings before baking it in the oven.

While it’s baking, cook your pasta in a separate pot. Once the tomato mixture is done, take it out and start mashing everything together before adding the cooked pasta. Sprinkle a little cheese and fresh basil, and voila—a healthy, low-calorie meal for the dinner table!

3. Salmon Rice Bowl

This is another recipe that blew up on TikTok, and for good reason! It’s essentially eating sushi but in a hearty, healthy rice bowl. Since it’s made with leftover salmon and rice, it’s a great way of reducing food wastage and saving time in the kitchen.

To make this, add flaked salmon to a bowl. Then, put in some cold rice and an ice cube. This will help it get nice and fluffy while warming in the microwave. Take it out and add in your soy sauce, Japanese mayonnaise, and sriracha. Add avocado and other seasonings if you’d like. That’s it!

Now, Japanese mayonnaise and soy sauce aren’t the healthiest things around, so just be mindful of your portions. However, the rest of the ingredients are perfectly healthy for the heart and body.

4. Cloud Bread

Look up at the sky—see those white, fluffy clouds that are way beyond your reach? Did you know that you could make your own clouds in the kitchen with just three ingredients? Yes, you heard me right!

Cloud bread is made of egg whites, sugar, and cornstarch. When combined and whipped beyond comprehension, it creates a super fluffy foam that you can actually play with your hands. Plop that concoction down onto a baking tray and bake. Eat it fresh out of the oven as that’s when it’s fluffiest.

To be quite frank, eating cloud bread is more for the experience than anything else. There’s not much taste-wise and nutrient-wise, though it is perfect for those on a diet if you replace the sugar with artificial sweeteners. Biting into it and ripping the cloud apart is what’s most fun!

5. Carrot Bacon

What if we told you you could still enjoy bacon without the guilt of eating an animal? That’s because this vegan bacon recipe from TikTok isn’t made from pork but carrots! The trick is to season it with lots of seasonings that give traditional bacon its meaty, smoky taste. Crunch on this tasty bacon as much as you want—carrots are known to help manage blood sugar and blood pressure levels, strengthen the immune system, and protect your eyes from damage.

6. Tortilla Wrap

This isn’t exactly a recipe—it’s more of a food hack! Here, you take a large tortilla wrap and cut one line from the center to the edge. Then, arrange your ingredients as seen in the photograph.

This hack is great because you can add whatever you’d like to the recipe. As we all know, making your own food at home is healthy because you know what exactly is getting into your body. Load your tortilla with lots of veggies and lean meats for a well-rounded meal.

After it’s arranged, fold one of the cut quarters up, then sideways, then back down to the other cut quarter. Fry it on the pan or just eat it as is!

7. Egg Sandwich

The egg sandwich trick is another TikTok food hack. Here, you pour some scrambled egg on a pan. Place two slices of bread side by side on the egg mixture while it’s still mostly liquid. Once solid, flip the whole thing over (bread and all) onto the other side. Add in other ingredients you’d like in your sandwich like tomatoes, avocados, bacon, or cheese. Then, fold the sides of the egg mixture over your bread then finish it off by folding the two bread slices together.

This is a one-pan sandwich that’s perfect for a quick breakfast!

8. Corn Ribs

Just like vegan bacon, corn ribs get you all of the meatiness without the meat! On top of that, it’s gluten-free and low-carbohydrate and can easily be made dairy-free or vegan.

Corn ribs work by cutting the corn vertically into quarters. The corn will be the meat while the cob will be the bones. Then, season it well with paprika, garlic powder, chili powder, and other spices of your choice plus avocado oil. Air fry, pan-fry, or bake it to a crisp and serve with chili mayonnaise. Yum!

9. Crispy Roast Potatoes

You might think roast potatoes aren’t anything revolutionary, but just you wait until you try these bad boys out. This recipe was crafted with food science in mind and is Kylie Jenner-approved!

Crispy roast potatoes start by boiling Yukon potatoes in water and a buttload of salt. Don’t worry about the sodium—they’re just there to make the potatoes nice and tender from the inside and out. After straining them, lightly mix the boiled potatoes in the hot pot—this increases the surface area and makes it extra crunchy. Then, put in the oven as usual with your blend of seasonings.

10. Pesto Eggs

Last but not least on this list is pesto eggs. The premise is simple—rather than cook your eggs in oil that’s bad for the heart and waist, cook them in heart-healthy and disease-preventing pesto!

On a hot pan, spread a generous dollop of pesto and let it sizzle. Crack an egg in the middle and season with salt, pepper, and chili flakes. Cover with a lid and lower the heat, cooking until the whites have set and the yolk is perfectly runny.

Serve with whole wheat bread or steamed vegetables!
